Movie Poster of the Week

Frankenstein (1931)

They simply don’t make brilliant poster like this anymore! It’s dramatic graphic blocks makes this poster fascinating to gaze upon.

Frankenstein is a superb horror classic and is one of my all time favourite horrors!

Premium Rush (2012)

Synopsis

In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.

Review

Premium Rush is an adrenaline fuelled chase movie about the daredevils who work for Manhattan bicycle messengers. Manhattan engraved into their minds and their addiction to cycle, they run red lights, weaving in and out of oncoming traffic (without breaks), whilst doing stunts to make sure they get the letters to the customer.

The title is referring to an extra cost to make for a fast delivery. Which is where Joesph Gordon-Levitt finds himself wanting to earn himself a bit more cash and takes on a job which will change the course of his day and where he will meet the crooked, gambling addict, aggressive cop – Michael Shannon.

Joesph Gordon-Levitt stars as ‘Wilee’ a speed nut! He portrayed the no brakes, daredevil brilliantly and I suspect the reason he played him well is because Joesph also loves being fuelled for action and is deep down an adrenaline junkie!!

Michael Shannon’s character I found wasn’t as tough or mean as other roles Michael has previously played (Iceman and The Shape of Water), so watching him portray Bobby Monday a crooked, corrupt cop was a bit of a let down. He didn’t come across as a believable character and for me a laughable to watch.

Premium Rush is a film which isn’t by any means perfect, It lacked unpredictability – you could see how it was going to end 10 minutes into the film, but I still found myself enjoying it. This hidden gem had a lots of things which I revelled in; fantastic sound track, fun, fast action and witty humour! For me Premium Rush was a cross between the great ‘500 Days of Summer’ and ‘The Walk’. Which are two films I thoroughly enjoyed.

Jungle (2017)

Synopsis

A group of friends join a guide for a trek into the Bolivian jungle, searching for an Indian village. The men soon realize that the jungle is a difficult place to be.

Review

As you probably guessed from the synopsis this is a survival film and who doesn’t like the sound of a good old survival movie, but sadly Jungle isn’t in my top ten survival films.

The film is directed by Greg McLean whom directed the gritty film Wolf Creek. Now I’m not a huge fan of Mcleans work but I do admire him for trying out different, non mainstream films such as this one.

Jungle is based on a true and terrifying story of Yossi Ghinsberg, an Israeli backpacker, and his deadly journey into the inhospitable Amazonian Jungle.

Visually this film was shot and portrayed beautifully, the further we went into the story, we soon start to realise the enchanting and dazzling colours soon start to go dark and sinister. When the dark tones start to appear, we experience the real jungle! For me that was it, I couldn’t find any other great thing to say about the film.

The acting was ok, Radcliffe was great at being the eager, up and going, wanting to see the world, happy-go-lucky Yossi Ghinsberg. I feel Daniel portrayed Yossi well but his accent was dodgy at times, he seemed to have slipped in and out of a proper english lad, then he switched back to a lost, scared, all alone Israeli backpacker.

So on one hand you have this beautifully shot film with superb views of the jungle and vibrant colours and good acting from The Harry Potter star but on the other hand I experienced a story that droned on for too long. The acting from the other stars was mediocre and I just found myself at times getting bored of the plot and found myself wishing for a 10 foot crocodile, panther or killer goldfish jump one of the characters and attempt to kill them just to make the film more entertaining!

Overall I thought the film was ok and I wouldn’t rush to watch Greg McLeans movie ‘Jungle’ again anytime soon .

Review – Zombieland (2009)

Synopsis

A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.

Review

Zombieland is a comedy horror like no other! It’s Shaun of the dead with an American twist.

I must have watched this film a thousand times and I never get bored of it. The one liners and all the innuendoes never get old. Zombieland is a laugh-out-loud film from start to finish.

This hilarious bloodthirsty film stars Woody Harrelson whom plays a ‘natural born zombie killer’ and boy did he look like he had fun playing this character – Tallahassee. Tallahassee is a bad-ass who finds inventive ways of doing what he does best; extinguishing and maiming zombies!

Jesse Eisenberg plays a nerdy, never been kissed boy who lives by a set of rules which he created when the zombie apocalypse started. To me Jesse was the best person to pick for this film as he plays the awkward, young man role well.

The plot for Zombieland is a tad weak but it was revived by the humour and the acting which was brilliant.

The film starts with a glimpse of the new Zombieland, blood and corpses everywhere, then we meet Columbus. Columbus is an awkward looking geek who needs the toilet! Moments later he then meets Tallahassee the zombie killing badass who has decided he’ll help Columbus and for them both to protect each other whilst they travel across America. Soon after we meet Witchita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) and this is when the film really opens up. The comedy starts to hit its peak and just when you thought they couldn’t make the film even funnier, they introduced BILL ‘THE LEGEND’ MURRAY!!!

Now I’m not going to unveil anymore about the storyline, as I don’t want to ruin-it for anyone that hasn’t yet experienced this action packed, zombie gore-fest, but I would like to add the directing, casting and the soundtrack for this film are great and I hope the people that have seen this film agree.

I really enjoyed this film and if your a zombie fan you will love it!
