In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.
Premium Rush is an adrenaline fuelled chase movie about the daredevils who work for Manhattan bicycle messengers. Manhattan engraved into their minds and their addiction to cycle, they run red lights, weaving in and out of oncoming traffic (without breaks), whilst doing stunts to make sure they get the letters to the customer.
The title is referring to an extra cost to make for a fast delivery. Which is where Joesph Gordon-Levitt finds himself wanting to earn himself a bit more cash and takes on a job which will change the course of his day and where he will meet the crooked, gambling addict, aggressive cop – Michael Shannon.
Joesph Gordon-Levitt stars as ‘Wilee’ a speed nut! He portrayed the no brakes, daredevil brilliantly and I suspect the reason he played him well is because Joesph also loves being fuelled for action and is deep down an adrenaline junkie!!
Michael Shannon’s character I found wasn’t as tough or mean as other roles Michael has previously played (Iceman and The Shape of Water), so watching him portray Bobby Monday a crooked, corrupt cop was a bit of a let down. He didn’t come across as a believable character and for me a laughable to watch.
Premium Rush is a film which isn’t by any means perfect, It lacked unpredictability – you could see how it was going to end 10 minutes into the film, but I still found myself enjoying it. This hidden gem had a lots of things which I revelled in; fantastic sound track, fun, fast action and witty humour! For me Premium Rush was a cross between the great ‘500 Days of Summer’ and ‘The Walk’. Which are two films I thoroughly enjoyed.
